Led by Suryacitta and Mark Lupton.

Statues of the Buddha have become popular in the west in
recent years as symbols of peace and serenity, whilst Buddhist practices such
as meditation and mindfulness have become important aspects of psychotherapy
and the well being agenda. At the same time Buddhist principles have been
central to the resistance of tyranny by Aung San Suu Kyi and the Dalai Lama.
This course looks to examine the key principles and
practices of this 2,500 year old philosophy and its relevance today, including:
Who
was the Buddha and what did he teach?
How
does a philosophy that focuses on suffering and impermanence become a
means of gaining wisdom and improving happiness?
What
are the key Buddhist practices which help facilitate happiness?
What
does Karma mean in Buddhism?
Meditation will be taught on this course.
