2008 THE WONDER OF AWARENESS Just Sitting Meditation retreat Have you ever simply left your experience alone, allowing fear, joy, sadness or confusion to reveal itself? Judging our experience is what usually prevents this from happening. This retreat is about trusting in awareness of our experience; allowing life to be what it is - fresh and uninterrupted. "This course was a revelation. The mixture of meditation practice, teaching and discussion was perfect. Each class was an opportunity to challenge my beliefs and thinking patterns and I emerged from the course with a welcome new outlook on life. An excellent touch was a list of further reading to help me deepen my understanding. I’d strongly recommend this course to anyone because it has changed my perception of life and I continue to feel the benefit of this every day".

FOCUSING & MEDITATION
Focusing (similar to meditation) is the art of listening to the wisdom that lies in our very own bodies. The body has a felt sense about all situations in every moment of our lives. Normally however, we are too caught up with our busy minds to listen to this felt sense, this wisdom. But when we do listen, this wisdom naturally leads us in the direction of healing and happiness. Focusing is listening to this wisdom. Our feelings and emotions carry messages about ourselves, and how we are living our lives, and it’s up to us to listen to these messages. Quite often we want to get rid of our feelings, to ignore them, or to change them into more pleasant feelings. These strategies often lead to illness, unhappiness and even depression. What we can do instead is to be a friend and listen to the wisdom of our feelings, and to see what they have to ‘say’. When we listen in this way instead of ignoring or fighting them we allow the body to move in the direction of wholeness and well being. Focusing and meditation can help with feelings of anxiety, fear, loneliness, self-esteem and confidence issues, and other personal difficulties. They can also help with relationship issues, work issues and indeed any area of our lives. Suryacitta has been teaching meditation for ten years. He has spent the last four years practicing and teaching meditation and focusing at a retreat centre in North Wales. He now lives and teaches in Brighton. Sessions are by donation.
